ICT in Teaching Education

Program Overview

The focus of the programme is the production of higher-level specialists/teachers in the design and teaching of Information Communication Technology (ICT), and the production of research oriented and high-level academics in the discipline. The activities of the ITE Department are guided by overarching vision, mission, aims and objectives that are periodically revisited to ensure currency and authenticity in line with information and communication technology- based changes in a complex global society so as to epitomize dedication, collaboration, world-class teaching service and social justice.

The Department will be world leader in assisting teachers develop the knowledge, skills and disposition necessary to become effective and competent ICT teachers who can provide leadership, educational and other related services in the society. The department envisions a society in which ICT Education do not only project the educational goals of the society, but also equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the future well-being of the individuals and the society.

The mission of the Department is to promote knowledge and professional practice in the areas of ICT Education. Our programmes are designed to equip students with knowledge, skills and attitude to make a difference through reflection and action.  In this regard, learners are provided with a strong foundational knowledge in ICT Education as well as the opportunity to explore concepts in related areas in the field of education.   

The aim of the Department is to prepare world-class ICT Education professionals who are known for the quality of their teaching and research as well as for their contributions to community development.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

  1. Equip students with knowledge and skills aimed at providing them with leadership roles in ICT Education through research.
  2. Inculcate in the students the necessary skills, abilities, competencies and values that will promote social justice and democratic citizenship.
  3. Equip students with competencies, skills and abilities for: Designing, planning and developing curricula in ICT Education; Designing, planning and implementing ICT instruction modules, strategies and media experimenting.
  4. Inspire students to take the lead in the development of collaborative, professional relationships with other departments in the Institution, and other organizations that are focused on ICT related areas.
  5. Equip students to Improve ICT teaching and learning through the use of technologies.

EMPLOYMENT OPORTUNITIES

Students in ICT Education secure jobs as teachers at different levels of Education. Some of them are employed at ICT centers, Ministries of Education and other Government and non-government agencies while some of them established private ICT centers.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be holders of an Advanced Level (AL) certificate or its equivalent.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

B.Sc. or B.Tech. degree in I.C.T in Teacher Education (ITE)

or its equivalent and/or open to students from all academic backgrounds

  • Continuous Assessment 30%
  • Final Examinations 70%
