The focus of the programme is the production of higher-level educational administrators and managers. The activities of the Department of Educational Administration and Management are guided by overarching vision, mission, aims and objectives that are periodically revisited to ensure currency and authenticity in line with information and communication technology- based changes in a complex global society so as to epitomize dedication, collaboration, world-class administrators and managers in educational institutions at all levels.
The Department will be world leader in assisting students develop the knowledge, skills and disposition necessary to become effective and competent administrators and managers who can provide leadership, educationally and other related services in the society. The department envisions a society in which curriculum development and implementation do not only project the educational goals of the society, but also equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the future well-being of the individuals and the society
The intent of the Educational Administration Program at YIBS is to prepare students to assume level administrative leadership positions in elementary and secondary education / other educational institutions, and to successfully carry out the range of tasks and activities typically encountered within the performance contexts of school administration. Thus, the mission of the Department is to promote knowledge and professional practice in the areas of educational administration and management. Our programmes are designed to equip students with knowledge, skills and attitude to make a difference through their administrative leadership styles.
The aim of the Department is to prepare world-class educational administrators / professionals who are known for the quality of their leadership as well as for their contributions to community development.
Provide direction for and facilitate group decision making and problem solving to accomplish collective tasks and objectives;
Intervene using formative supervision and summative evaluation procedures to promote the effective performance of staff members;
Express, through oral and written communication, ideas, information, and intentions in ways that are understood and accepted;
Provide change-oriented leadership by translating knowledge, competence and interpersonal skills into improved organizational arrangements and outcomes;
Facilitate through effective collaboration and organization the development and implementation of a shared vision that meets the educational needs of students and that addresses the educational aspirations of staff, parents, and the community;
Inspire students to take the lead in the development of collaborative, professional relationships with other departments in the Institution, and other organizations that are concerned with effective leadership;
Inculcate in the students the necessary skills, abilities, competencies and values that will promote social justice and democratic citizenship.
Graduates in educational administration and management secure jobs as managers and administrators at different levels of Education. Some of them are employed at educational-related centers, Ministries of Education and other Government and non-government agencies while some of them establish private schools.
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Upon successful completion of class work, submission of an internship report and defence of a research project.
