The focus of the programme is the production of higher-level specialists in the design and development of curriculum and instructional systems, and the production of research oriented and high-level academics in the discipline. The activities of the Department of Curriculum Studies and Teaching are guided by overarching vision, mission, aims and objectives that are periodically revisited to ensure currency and authenticity in line with information and communication technology- based changes in a complex global society so as to epitomize dedication, collaboration, world-class teaching service and social justice.
The Department will be world leader in assisting students develop the knowledge, skills and disposition necessary to become effective and competent teachers who can provide leadership, educational and other related services in the society. The department envisions a society in which curriculum development and implementation do not only project the educational goals of the society, but also equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the future well-being of the individuals and the society.
The mission of the Department is to promote knowledge and professional practice in the areas of teaching and learning. Our programmes are designed to equip students with knowledge, skills and attitude to make a difference through knowledge, reflection and action. In this regard, students are provided with a strong foundational knowledge in the principles and processes of Curriculum and Instruction as well as the opportunity to explore concepts in related areas in the field of education.
The aim of the Department is to prepare world-class educational professionals who are known for the quality of their teaching and research as well as for their contributions to community development.
Designing, planning and developing curriculum; Designing, planning and implementing instruction modules, strategies and media Experimenting; researching, evaluating and revising curriculum and instruction processes; Designing and executing simple classroom situational research in specific areas of their interests.
Graduates in Curriculum Studies and Teaching secure jobs as teachers at different levels of Education. Some of them are employed at Curriculum Development-related centers, Ministries of Education, and other Government and non-government agencies while some of them have established private schools.
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Upon successful completion of class work, submission of an internship report and defense of a Mster’s Dissertation.
