Program Overview

Recent situations underscore that understanding and managing risk are essential in the modern world, with a looming talent shortage the demand for expertise is high and we are proud to place all our students upon graduation. The insurance and risk management at YIBS provides a multidisciplinary approach to the study and practice of insurance.

Upon graduation, students will understand the reality of risks that affect all individuals and organizations and how to manage these risks. Our undergraduate students are motivated individuals who chose YBS to turn their passion into a career they love and aspire to build. Our program supports this mission by incorporating applied coursework into our classes.

Objectives

The objective of this specialty is to train professionals who may be called upon to perform activities of a commercial, technical, and management nature relating to insurance; impact their knowledge on subscription modalities and indemnification of companies for loss covered by insurance and social security protection through the integration of clients.

Expected Skills

General skills

  • Have sales and negotiation skills;
  •  Master the legal framework of insurance;
  •  Be apt in an oral and written communication;
  • Understand the professional milieu;
  • Be capable of team leadership.

     Specific Skills 

  • Identify and determine the economic and legal framework of the
    insurance sector;
  • Use techniques peculiar to the different types of insurance;

  • Advise clients and propose to them insurance contracts; 

  • Manage relations with clients; 

  • Communicate in a professional, legal, fiscal, and financial environment;

  • Contribute to obtaining the goodwill of clients and to the
    development of the portfolio of the company.

ADMISSION

Admission to the Professional Degree Programme in Insurance is open to holders of the HND/HPD, BTS, and DSEP in insurance, Finance, and other certificates related to the discipline.

DURATION

The duration of the degree programme is one year (two semesters) in YIBS including an internship.  

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

For a student to qualify for graduation, a minimum of 60 credits must be earned.

FURTHER STUDIES

Upon graduation with the Bachelor’s certificate in insurance, the students could choose to pursue further studies by:

  • Spend one more year to earn in degree in any related business and finance fields
  • Enroll in any International Professional Certification program, such as ABE –UK, PMP –the USA, etc. Further details (Link to ABE)  

Job Opportunities

 Graduates with this degree program in Insurance can serve as:

  1. Insurance subscriber;
  2. Insurance consultant;
  3. Manage individual and collective life assurance;
  4. Underwriter and/or regulation;
  5. Collaborators of general agents or insurance brokers;  
  6. Insurance experts, Financial agents in Insurance companies, and Middle-level managers in insurance companies can also create Income Generating Activities as well as manage small & medium enterprises.
