Information Management Systems

Program Overview

A management information system (MIS) is a computer system consisting of hardware and software that serves as the backbone of an organization’s operations. An MIS gathers data from multiple online systems, analyzes the information, and reports data to aid in management decision-making. MIS is also the study of how such systems work and improved decision-making, by providing up-to-date, accurate data on a variety of organizational assets, including: financials, inventory, personnel, project timelines, manufacturing, real estate, marketing, raw materials and R&D. The MIS collects the data, stores it, and makes it accessible to managers who want to analyze the data by running reports.

Firms need intelligence gathering and thus prefer to hire people that can innovatively use high performant soft wares to help them run their database analytics that would give them competitive edge.

Program Objectives

Management information system is an organized integration of hardware and software technologies, data, processes, and human elements. It is a software system that focuses on the management of information technology to provide efficient and effective strategic decision making. The overall aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding at how to use and manage information system in order to revitalize business processes, improve business decision making, and gain competitive advantage. It also help to help executives of an organization make decisions that advance the organization’s strategy.

ADMISSION

Admission to the Professional Degree Programme in Information System Management is open to holders of the HND/HPD, BTS, DSEP in Management, information systems, and other certificates related to the discipline.

DURATION

The duration of the degree program is one year (two semesters) in YIBS including an internship.  

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

For a student to qualify for graduation, a minimum of 60 credits must be earned.

FURTHER STUDIES

Upon graduation with the Bachelor’s certificate in Information System Management, the students could choose to pursue further studies by:

  • Spend one more year to earn in degree in any related management fields
  • Enroll in any International Professional Certification program, such as ABE –UK, PMP –the USA, etc. Further details (Link to ABE)
