Curriculum Development and Teaching

Program Overview

Education is basically concerned with the Curriculum, either its development or its implementation. It is a vehicle that drives the goals of education. Curriculum studies and teaching play a vital role in the training and retraining of competent teachers and reflects societal needs, problems, characteristics, and trends. This program standardizes the learning goals for the entire school and provides a clear path for students to progress from one class to another. It empowers teachers with the pedagogic tools, materials, and assessment techniques to ensure the best achievements in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.

Objectives of the Program

  1. Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:
  2. Develop curricula that can respond to socio-cultural needs;
  3. Plan and develop primary and secondary school curriculum; 
  4. Plan and deliver the best methodology and materials for effective implementation;
  5. Appropriately select and organize learning experiences; 
  6. Provide teachers with an outline of what should be taught- schemes of work development- teach and do an assessment;
  7. Carry out research in the area as well as instructional design.

Expected Outcomes

Competent in curriculum planning, development, and evaluation of school programs, competent in teaching and schemes of work development, Selecting and organizing learning experiences, designing assessment formats, and effectively assessing learning achievements. Plan and develop appropriate methods and models of curriculum for the nursery, primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education.

ADMISSION

Admission to the Professional Degree Programme in Curriculum development and teaching is open to holders of the HND/HPD, BTS, DSEP in Education, and other certificates related to the discipline.

DURATION

The duration of the degree program is one year (two semesters) in YIBS including an internship.  

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

For a student to qualify for graduation, a minimum of 60 credits must be earned.

FURTHER STUDIES

Upon graduation with the Bachelor’s certificate in insurance, the students could choose to pursue further studies by spending one more year to earn in degree in any related Education field

Teaching, Consultancy, Administration, Program developers and evaluators, Researchers, instructional designers, Data analysts, Guidance counselors, Pedagogic supervisors, and inspectors, etc
